NuScale Power Completes Third Energy Exploration (E2) Center at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas

In partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, NuScale’s E2 Center will offer hands-on learning opportunities in nuclear science and engineering.

Today, NuScale Power announced the opening of a NuScale Energy Exploration (E2) Center™ in collaboration with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station. The NuScale simulator is installed at the Center for Advanced Small Modular and Micro Reactors (CASMR) located in College Station, Texas.

This is the third E2 Center NuScale has unveiled with university partners, with the first opening at Oregon State University in November 2020 followed by a second opening at the University of Idaho at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in August of 2021.

The E2 Center will offer users an exciting hands-on learning opportunity to apply nuclear science and engineering principles through simulated, real-world nuclear power plant operation scenarios. The E2 Center employs state-of-the-art computer modeling within a simulation of the NuScale small modular reactor (SMR) power plant control room, allowing users to take on the role of “control room operator” at a NuScale 12-unit SMR plant to learn about the groundbreaking features and functionality unique to NuScale’s technology. Additionally, it will provide a means to conduct outreach to the community through demonstrations, tours, and education to community leaders, K-12 students, and interested citizens.

These E2 Centers are supported by a 2019 U.S. Department of Energy grant to broaden the understanding of advanced nuclear technology in a control room setting and provide students, researchers, operators, and members of the public opportunities to engage in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) research and education.
